How to get there
Getting to Australia is easy. QANTAS,
the Australian national airline flies there regularly.
Accommodation
There are many options available to you for accommodation in
Sydney. Basair is happy to help you make the necessary arrangements.
- Accommodation is available on Bankstown Airport. This accommodation
is simple, cheap, and very close to Basair. Room only - no meals
are provided. Around AUD$110 per week.
- A homestay with an Australian family. With this option you
stay with a local family who provide housing, and most meals
for you. Around AUD$200 per week.
- You may also like to arrange to rent a house with some other
students. This is normally done once you get to Australia, and
you stay in the airport accommodation (see number 1 above) until
the house is arranged. Houses nearby generally rent for around
AUD$250 per week - 3 bedrooms.
Things to do
When you get to Australia there will be many things you will
want to see and do.
Sydney has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There
are also many places where you can play and watch cricket, football
as well as many other sports!
There are plenty of opportunities during your course to see the
countryside, as well as some of the unique animals in Australia.
You will see Kangaroos, Emus and lots others, and visit such places
as Dubbo, Broken Hill, Ayers Rock (Uluru), The Gold Coast, The
Blue Mountains and the Great Barrier Reef.

Telephone companies
Telephones are easy to access in Australia. You can purchase
"Phone Cards" which allow you to make calls without
needing cash.
Two main land-based phone companies operate in Australia:
Telstra and Optus.
Three main mobile telephone companies operate in Australia:
Telstra, Optus
and Vodafone.
Currency
The Australian currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD $), which
is made up of 100 cents. Coins come in 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent,
50 cent, $1 and $2 denominations. Notes are in $5, $10, $20, $50,
$100 denominations.
Electricity
The electricity supply across the whole of Australia is 240 volts
AC, 50 Hz. Plugs used in Australia are a unique "angled pin
and earth" design - you will need an adapter. The quality
of the electricity supply is very good.
Visas
Visas are required for visiting Australia, and a special student
visa is required to study. Details are available here.
Medical Insurance
Your course fee includes complete health insurance cover for
the period of your course. Australia has an excellent medical
system.
Internet access
Basair has an Internet terminal in the main building available
for your use at no charge. You can keep in contact with friends
and family while away by e-mail - and it won't cost you anything.
