  Advanced Diploma in Aviation
leading to Bachelor of
Business with the
University of Newcastle.

Candidates completing dual studies in Aviation and Business are strongly positioned for jobs with airlines that are seeking relevant skills from future employees. The aviation industry is very competitive and current high demand skills include knowledge about business organisation, marketing, human resources, information technology and financial management.

Airlines are increasingly seeking pilots who have a dual capability – in aviation AND in business. The competitive strength of the organisation is enhanced and the multi-skilling of staff provides businesses with options to deploy employee expertise in either an operational or management capacity. Employers understand that personal circumstances of staff change as do organisational circumstances. Multi-skilled, knowledgeable people better enables an organisation to retain personnel that have had significant development and built up key corporate knowledge. Such staff are better able to function in a range of capacities or positions and can respond quickly to altering business and personal circumstances whilst still remaining with the organisation.

Basair Australia and the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Newcastle have formed a strategic partnership to deliver an innovative new programme.

Students undertake 58 weeks of intensive training with Basair Australia (Hunter Valley Aviation Campus) at Cessnock Airport and at the same time attend University for approximately 2 half days per week for a total of 26 weeks. Successful candidates qualify after 58 weeks for the Advanced Diploma of Aviation. At this point students then have the option of continuing their University studies towards a Bachelor of Business either full time, or they can work and continue studies part time. For candidates who are transferred to areas outside Newcastle, students are able to apply to transfer study credits to other Universities in their new location. Application for course credits may also be made to Universities internationally as the University of Newcastle has links with over 60 Universities around the world.

The University of Newcastle has an excellent reputation both in Australia and overseas. It ranks ninth out of thirty eight Universities in terms of research quantum in the country and is well known internationally.
